Comparison

Savvanta vs HackerRank

This is the closest comparison on the site and the one where we concede the most. HackerRank's integrity reporting is as thorough as anything in the market, and if your hiring is exclusively software engineering at volume, it is a serious answer. The differences are about what is assessed and what happens to the result, not about who watches harder.

Where we are not ahead. HackerRank's integrity report includes session replay, screenshot and webcam evidence, copy-paste logs, timestamped tab-exit duration, and plagiarism analysis, and session replay can show how a solution was built up step by step. That is a genuinely strong instrument and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

What is the candidate asked to do?

HackerRank

Problems from a large curated library, largely algorithmic and language-specific, with test cases. Excellent at establishing whether someone can program. Deliberately abstracted away from any particular employer's codebase.

Savvanta

A task written for the role as advertised, using the tools the job actually names — and for non-engineering roles, something entirely different: a live spoken call with an AI customer for sales and support, scored on what was said and when.

What this meansA library problem asks whether someone is a programmer. A role task asks whether they are the programmer for this job. Both are legitimate; only the second survives a hiring manager asking what the test had to do with the work.

Which roles can it cover?

HackerRank

Software engineering and adjacent technical roles, which it does deeply. Outside engineering it is not the intended tool.

Savvanta

Sixty-four roles across twenty-six families — engineering, sales, collections, clinical administration, insurance, logistics, support — each with its mark scheme published. Coding assessments are one profile among several; a spoken profile drops screen capture where the answer is the candidate talking.

What this meansIf every role you hire writes code, this difference is worth nothing to you. If you also hire the people who answer the phone, it is most of the decision.

Who is accountable for the result?

HackerRank

The report goes to the employer with scores and integrity evidence attached. What is done with it is the employer's process; the mark scheme is not published to candidates in advance and there is no vendor-side appeal with written reasons.

Savvanta

A named human has to confirm the assessment before it counts, conduct findings sit above the score instead of being averaged into it, candidates can appeal on seven grounds and get written reasons, and capture failures are reported separately from performance so a candidate on a weak upstream link is not quietly marked down for dropped recording chunks.

What this meansThe last one is subtle and it is the one we would defend hardest: a partial recording and a weak candidate look identical downstream unless someone deliberately keeps them apart, and upstream bandwidth tracks income and region.

What HackerRank does better

Read the thing itself rather than a claim about it. The report an employer receives is published in full — real criteria, real weights, an invented candidate, and the conduct finding placed above the score. No form.

Frequently asked questions

Is Savvanta a HackerRank replacement?

For a pure high-volume software-engineering funnel, usually not — HackerRank's library, norms and integrations are ahead of ours. It becomes the better fit when the task needs to resemble the actual job, or when the same process has to cover non-engineering roles.

Does Savvanta detect plagiarism in code?

Not with a corpus comparable to HackerRank's. Our answer to copied work is structural rather than statistical: the attempt is recorded and the candidate has to explain their own solution afterwards.

Can Savvanta assess non-technical roles?

Yes, and that is most of the corpus — 64 roles across 26 families, including a live simulated customer call for sales, collections and support roles that is scored on conduct as well as outcome.

Do you publish your mark schemes?

Yes, all of them, before you buy and without a signup. Start at the assessments library, or read a finished report on the sample report page.
